Mitch Roob of WoundVision
OWM: Please describe your education, training, and work experiences that have prepared you for your current position as CEO of WoundVision.
I am a graduate of DePauw University and I have a Master of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame.
Most recently, I served as Secretary of Commerce for the State of Indiana and Chief Executive Officer of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC). As the Secretary of Commerce, I was a member of Governor Mitch Daniels’ cabinet and lead the state’s economic development efforts.
Under my leadership, the IEDC secured 200 decisions by companies to locate a projected 23,000 new jobs and $4.3 million in capital investment in the state of Indiana in 2010. I also lead the state’s efforts to grow the biotechnology sector and as such, serve on the Board of Directors for BioCrossroads, an organization focused on advancement of the state’s life sciences strengths, and chair the Board of Directors for Indiana Health Information Technology, Inc, the non-profit entity tapped to oversee and enhance the state’s health information technology delivery system.
Before joining the IEDC, I served 4 years as the Secretary of Indiana’s Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA). FSSA is the health and social services branch of state government including Medicaid, Food Stamps, programs for senior citizens, and services for people with mental illness, addictions and disabilities.
I was also President of the Marion County Health and Hospital Corporation, responsible for the Health Department and Wishard Public Hospital.
OWM: What should our readers know about WoundVision?
WoundVision is a web-based predictive modeling, risk assessment software solution supported by thermal imaging for early wound detection. Our solutions detect pressure ulcers, as well as other wounds, and give early and future insight into risks regarding the patient’s total health. We utilize a holistic, continuous process of tracking overall patient health to determine whether they are at risk for the above factors.
Additionally, we provide insight into other risk factors such as falls, infection, readmission, malnutrition, and many other crucial risk factors that healthcare providers must closely monitor to provide proper care. In fact, the risk of developing pressure ulcers is a core quality indicator for almost every other common health risk. This reality makes the WoundVision system extremely valuable to healthcare providers who are under intense scrutiny to deploy and backup with contemporaneous documentation at a moment’s notice, while also providing a holistic and objective approach to caring for patients.
OWM: How were you first introduced to wound care and why do you enjoy working in this arena?
Although my previous work as President of the Marion County Health and Hospital Corporation familiarized me with the concerns facing the wound care industry, it was not until joining WoundVision that I became this involved.
The best part about working in wound care is knowing that I am involved with a company that can potentially change the industry for the better.
OWM: What are some of the company’s biggest accomplishments thus far? What are some of your key products and/or functions that clearly distinguish your brand?
Our company’s biggest accomplishments thus far include the launch and completion of our iNSIGHT predictive modeling and risk assessment software, the development of a thermographic imaging device for the early detection of wounds, and assembling a group of executive leaders and entrepreneurial healthcare professionals with experience in building successful healthcare device and software companies.
WoundVision has created the only predictive modeling and risk assessment software that is supported by thermal imaging. When combining our iNSIGHT software and Thermal Imaging System (TIS), we give clinicians the ability to stay one step ahead of patient risk factors, helping to optimize patient outcomes and save facilities money. This is what sets our brand apart from others.
OWM: Please describe the mission/vision of your company and how your personal vision fits with the company’s goals.
WoundVision’s mission is to deliver a holistic solution that brings knowledge bedside to minimize uncertainty in predicting and tracking wounds.
WoundVision is determined to enable the delivery of holistic, personalized healthcare service to each individual by consistently tracking key health indicators throughout the continuum of care. By achieving this vision, WoundVision will dramatically improve healthcare professionals’ ability to prevent illness and death for millions of people around the world.
I strongly believe in the power of private markets and their capability to extend the quality and quantity of life.
OWM: Please explain what must take place on a daily basis at WoundVision in order to accommodate patients, clinicians, and healthcare facilities.
WoundVision must continue to strive for excellence in all facets of the company. Whether it is new and improved future versions of our products or improved education of the sales and marketing team, we will continue to get better to stay ahead of the curve in the wound care industry.
OWM: Looking ahead, what are some incentives or products the company is working on?
Currently, WoundVision is in the research and development phase of a wound analysis and measurement tool that works in conjunction with our TIS and iNSIGHT solutions.
